Ms. Grayson's Mission

To meet the needs of a diverse elementary school population, a teacher needs to be aware of the multitude of learning methods available.  Not all children learn the same, yet all children benefit from receiving information in in a variety of styles. Thus, as an elementary school teacher, I will endeavor to provide for the students entrusted in my care the optimal learning environment.  This environment will include many opportunities to explore, construct, and test the knowledge gained.  I will match the learning experience of each child at his or her development level.  Challenging children to go beyond what is known using creative and critical thinking, reinforced with powerful small group and individual mini-lessons; and striving for a mastery equal to and above the child's level of performance will be the goal of any classroom that I create.

Along with the academic and intellectual pursuits of education, I will teach children to believe in themselves.  I will present activities and experiences that extend to them opportunities to question, explore, make mistakes, and learn in a safe environment.  Through out the learning process I will encourage students to think about how they are thinking; to figure out how they learn best; and to set up from this metacognition process a successful system of learning.  As the students begin to identify themselves and their leaning styles, I too will be learning about each individual child.  Using this knowledge, I will enhance my lessons to meet the learning needs of each child.  This type of reflective teaching will give students the optimal learning environment.

Teaching children to have a respect, if not a love for learning and education is a must .  Yet, before this can be accomplished children need to have respect and love for themselves.  They must believe in themselves. Thus, my mission is to educate each child to the highest levels of mastery in all areas.
